The following is a selection of the most commonly available cultivars. It should be noted that many cultivars have been released without necessarily having great horticultural merit, and parents of hybrids may be ornamentally superior to their hybrid selections. A great service would be done to Australian horticulture if commercially available cultivars were fully described and classified into formal cultivar groups, thus aiding identification and an assessment of the merit of new introductions.

Shrub to about 2-5 m tall and wide. Leaves broad, linear to about 2.5 cm long. Flowers in dense terminal clusters, orange-red over most of the year. Probable hybrid, G. juniperina × G. victoriae, raised by George Althofer at Nindethana Nsy, Dripstone, NSW, in 1957, the name commemorating his wife.
Dense, spreading shrub 60-90 cm tall, to 1 m wide. Leaves narrow, grey. Flowers vivid pink; winter to summer. Int. as a selection in 1960s-70s.
Grevillea 'Bonnie Prince Charlie'
A low shrub to about 20 cm tall. Leaves broad, linear, hairy below with the margins rolled under. Flowers yellow, red at the base, spring to summer. G. alpina _ g. rosmarinifolia. Very similar to 'Austraflora McDonald Park' but with larger leaves and flowers. Int. Austraflora Nsy, Vic, c. 1984.
Grevillea 'Boongala Spinebill'
Spreading shrub to about 1m tall with arching branches. New growth reddish. Leaves to 10 cm or so long, divided. Flower clusters terminal, toothbrush-like, year round. Flowers greenish and hairy with a deep red style. Possibly a cross, g. bipinnatifida _ g. caleyi, originating at 'Boongala', property of Sid Cadwell, Annangrove, nsw.
Spreading prostrate shrub to about 20 cm tall, 2-4 m wide. New growth bronze. Leaves to about 10 cm long with linear lobes, the lobes sometimes secondarily lobed. Flower clusters toothbrush-like, long, red; sporadically throughout the year but mainly spring. Flowers burgundy and pink with green tip, hairy; style red. Parentage unknown, arising in the garden of Lyn and Bill Wilson, Moe, Vic and int. 1985.
Spreading prostrate shrub 2-3 m wide. Leaves oblong-elliptic, to 10 cm long, occasionally lobed. Flowers toothbrush-like, red, mainly spring. Seedling of 'Poorinda Royal Mantle' raised by Don Burke, Sydney. Closely resembles g. laurifolia.
Shrub to 2 m or so tall. Leaves to 3 cm long, linear, needlepointed. Flower clusters terminal or axillary; year round, mostly winter and spring. Flowers pink, green-tipped, slightly hairy. Hybrid, g. juniperina _ g. rosmarinifolia, raised by p. Moore, chief nurseryman, Yarralumla Nsy, Canberra, c. 1962.
Spreading shrub with arching branches. Leaves lanceolate, to about 5 cm long, hairy below. Flowers in terminal or axillary slightly drooping clusters for most of the year, bright yellow with a green tip. Probable hybrid, g. juniperina prostrate yellow _ g. victoriae var. leptoneura. A selection from a private garden in Canterbury Rd, Blackburn,Vic, in 1971. Int.Austraflora Nsy,Vic, 1981.
Compact shrub 30-60 cm tall, 50-80 cm wide. Leaves greygreen. Flowers bright pink; winter to summer. Int. late 1960s-70s.
Dense shrub to about 2 m tall. Leaves to about 3 cm long, 3 mm wide, linear, margins rolled under. Flower clusters terminal and axillary. Flowers dark scarlet-pink tipped cream, slightly hairy. A hybrid, g. lavandulacea (Victor Harbour, sa, form) _ g. rosmarinifolia (Dargo, Vic, form). Raised by Bill Cane at Clearview Nsy, Maffra, Vic in 1940s and named after one of his sons. Sometimes sold as 'Red Dragon'.
Shrub to about 2 m tall. Leaves densely arranged, grey, narrowly oblong, to about 1.5 cm long, pointed. Flower clusters mostly terminal, winter and spring. Flowers reddish pink with a cream tip. Hand-pollinated hybrid, g. lanigera (Snowy River form) _ g. lavandulacea var. lavandulacea (Victor Harbour, sa, form). Raised by Bill Cane at Clearview Nsy,Maffra,Vic, in the late 1940s and named by Jean Galbraith, Victorian author and naturalist. 'Crosbie Morrison' also arose from this cross.
Shrub to 3 m tall. Foliage purplish. Flower clusters toothbrush-like, year round. Flowers dark pink. Hybrid, g. barklyana subsp. macleayana _ g. aspleniifolia or g. longifolia. Selection from the garden of Vern Frampton, Saratoga, nsw, c. 1977 and int. Floralands Nsy, near Gosford, nsw.
Shrub to 2 m tall. Leaves pinnate. Flowers dark pink with deep red to orange styles, year round. Similar to 'Robyn Gordon' but more upright and with denser foliage. Possible hybrid, g. banksii (white) _ g. bipinnatifida. Raised in Brisbane, int. Lakkari Native Plant Nsy.
Spreading, prostrate shrub to about 0.5 m tall. New growth coppery. Leaves with multiple divisions. Flowers toothbrush-like, soft pink. Probable hybrid, g. aquifolium _ g. acanthifolia, a chance hybrid arising at Austraflora Nsy, Vic, in 1975.
Erect shrub to 6 m tall. Leaves to about 8 cm long, oblong, lobes 5-9, pointed. Flower clusters toothbrush-like. Flowers pink. Int. by Facey's Nsy, Cranbourne,Vic. Resembles an upright g. _gaudichaudii.
Spreading, densely branched shrub 20-30 cm tall. Flower clusters purple-pink, toothbrush-like; year round. Flowers red. Possible parents g. acanthifolia _ g. willisii or g. ilicifolius. Chance seedling raised by Peter Baker, Coldstream, Vic. Int. Native Australian Plant Nsy, Vic, 1985.
Low shrub with branches often arching. Leaves grey, linear, to about 1.5 cm long with margins rolled under. Flowers terminal and axillary, spidery; winter to early summer. Flowers red with creamy white tips. A name chosen by the Beaumaris Tree Preservation Society to commemorate naturalist and author Philip Crosbie Morrison (1900-58). A hybrid, g. lanigera (Snowy River form) _ g. lavandulacea (Victor Harbour, sa, form). Cross performed by Bill Cane of Maffra, Vic, in the late 1940s.
Shrub to 1 m tall. Leaves linear, to about 3 cm long. Flowers year round in red clusters. Arose in the mid-1960s as a seedling of uncertain parentage selected by Nigel Quick at Dargan Hill Nsy, Glen Waverley,Vic.Very similar to g. rosmarinifolia.
S Coronet' Rounded shrub. Leaves oblong, to about 2 cm long; margins rolled under. Flower clusters terminal in spring and summer. Flowers woolly, greyish pink, styles bright pink. Possible hybrid, g. buxifolia _ g. lavandulacea or g. sericea. Found in the garden of Mrs Hickey, Lane Cove, Sydney, 1972.
Prostrate, spreading shrub. New growth reddish. Leaves with numerous lateral lobes cut almost to the midrib. Flowers toothbrush-like, reddish maroon; spring-summer. Probable hybrid, g. _gaudichaudii _ g. longifolia. Chance seedling arising in the garden of Dr Ann Warren, Warrandyte, Vic. Int. Austraflora Nsy,Vic, 1984.
A low, dense groundcover. Leaves lanceolate, entire. Flowers toothbrush-like, purple-pink, the styles green; year round but mostly spring-summer.
Shrub to about 2 m tall. Leaves linear, about 2.5 cm long, pointed. Flower clusters in winter and spring. Flowers pink to red. Similar to and possibly the same as 'Canberra Gem'. Probable hybrid, g. juniperina _ ?g. rosmarinifolia. Raised in 1960 from seed collected locally by George Althofer at the David Gordon property Nindethana, Glenmorgan, Qld.
Compact, soft, grey-foliaged shrub to about 0.5 m tall. Flower clusters yellow with red styles. Int. Plant Growers Australia as a bush selection, g. alpina _ g. rosmarinifolia.
As for 'Audrey' but leaves with an irregular yellow margin patterning. A variegated branch sport taken from 'Audrey' and int. by Sparks's Nsy,Wandiligong, ne Vic, in 1973.
Prostrate, spreading shrub. Leaves to 7 cm or so long, deeply lobed. Flower clusters toothbrush-like, year round but mostly in spring. Flowers red. A hybrid, g. laurifolia (wavy-leaved) _ g. tetragonoloba.

Possible hybrid, g. baueri _ g. rosmarinifolia 'Nana', which arose as a chance seedling in the garden of John Evans.Nurseryman, John Rose, took cuttings in 1979, int.1981.

Spreading shrub 20-30 cm tall. New growth yellow. Leaves with 4-5 pointed lobes or occasionally entire. Flowers erect, yellow, with prominent pink to orange style. Probable hybrid, g. ilicifolia _ g. juniperina prostrate yellow. Raised by g. Mattingly, Blackburn, Vic and int. Austraflora Nsy, Vic, 1982.
Small, densely branched shrub to 2 m tall. Leaves strongly pointed. Flower clusters pendulous, winter to spring. Flowers deep pink and cream. A seedling selection with g. dallachiana and g. rosmarinifolia as possible parents. Popular during the Olympics of 1956 in Melbourne and now available in New Zealand, s Africa and California.
Shrub to 2 m tall. Leaves mostly oblong, to 3.5 cm long, hairy below, margins rolled under. Flowers in terminal hanging clusters, creamy yellow with a dark red style. Probable hybrid, g. baueri _ g. chrysophae.a chance seedling arising in Austraflora Nsy,Vic.
Shrub to about 3 m tall. Leaves grey, deeply pinnately divided. Flower clusters cylindrical, to about 20 cm long. Flowers reddish pink with yellow-tipped styles. An F2 hybrid of g. 'Misty Pink' grown from seed collected in a Brisbane private garden and grown at John Donahue's Nsy, Townsville. Int. Serg Morelli of Townsville Tropical Trees Nsy in 1983.
Medium to large shrub with bright pink flowers along the stems; winter to summer. G. juniperina _ g. rosmarinifolia. Hardly distinguishable from 'Canberra Gem'.
Low shrub to about 0.5 m tall. Leaves linear. Flower clusters late winter and spring. Flowers pink with cream tip and pink styles. Presumed dwarf form of g. rosmarinifolia, int. in 1983.
Shrub to 5 m or more tall. Leaves pinnately divided into deep linear lobes. Flower clusters cylindrical, to 20 cm or so long. Flowers pink with cream styles. Generally larger plant with longer flower clusters than 'Misty Pink'. Probable hybrid, g. banksii (red) _ g. whyteana (Mundubbera form), which arose as a chance seedling in the garden of Mrs Win Bristow, Brisbane, in 1975. A range of about 50 cultivars in the Poorinda series has been produced by Leo Hodge of Vic. While a number of these have no particular merit, the following are useful and widely available.

Grevillea 'Poorinda Anticipation'
Shrub to 2-3 m tall, to 4 m wide. Leaves divided deeply into pointed lobes. Flower clusters toothbrush-like. Flowers pink. Probable hybrid, g. longifolia _ g. willisii, produced between 1960 and 1964.
Large shrub 3-4 m tall. Leaves deeply cut into triangular lobes. Flower clusters toothbrush-like in winter and spring. Flowers purple with apricotyellow styles. Probably a seedling selection of g. hookeriana or hybrid made 1960-4.
Grevillea 'Poorinda Constance'
Shrub to 4 m tall. Leaves oblong, to about 3 cm long. Flower clusters spidery; year round but mainly winter and spring. Flowers red. Probably a hybrid, g. juniperina _ g. victoriae (red-flowered), produced in 1952. Widely available and popular in the usa.
Shrub 1-2 m tall. Leaves oblong, to 3 cm long. Flower clusters axillary, in spring. Flowers pale apricot with yellow styles. A selected seedling of 'Poorinda Leanne'.
Shrub to 2 m or so tall. Leaves narrowly elliptic, to 4 cm long. Flower clusters toothbrush-like, spring to autumn. Flowers apricot with red styles. Probable hybrid, g. juniperina _ (g. alpina _ g. obtusiflora), produced 1960-4.

Grevillea 'Poorinda Golden Lyre'
Low, spreading shrub to 2 m tall. Leaves narrowly elliptic, to 3 cm long. Flower clusters lateral in winter and spring. Flowers large, yellow. Probable hybrid, g. alpina _ g. victoriae, produced 1953-4.
Spreading shrub to 1 m tall. Leaves linear, to 3 cm long, greygreen. Flower clusters terminal in spring and summer. Flowers deep pink with styles pink becoming green. Probable hybrid, g. juniperina (broad-leaved) _ g. linearifolia, produced 1965-6.
Dense shrub to 1 m tall with arching branches. Leaves linear, to 2 cm long with pointed tips. Flower clusters in winter and spring. Flowers dark pink with creamy tips and pink styles. Probable hybrid, g. lanigera _ g. lavandulacea, produced 1959-60.

Grevillea 'Poorinda Royal Mantle'
A fast growing prostrate groundcover with leaves lobed or entire, mostly up to about 10 cm long, and with purplish red new growth. Flowers red and toothbrush-like. Probably the hybrid, g. laurifolia _ g. willisii. Int. 1967-8.
Spreading soft shrub to 0.5 m tall, 2-3 m wide. Leaves to about 2 cm long. Flower clusters in spring. Flowers red and cream, style dark red. Possible hybrid, g. lavandulacea (seed parent) _ g. alpina (Cardinia form), produced in 1964.
Spreading shrub to 3 m tall with arching branches. Leaves linear, 1-3 cm long. Flower clusters spidery in spring. Flower pale pink, green at the tip with bright pink style. Possible hybrid, g. juniperina _ g. lanigera, produced in the early 1960s.
Shrub to 1 m tall. Leaves linear, broad, to 2 cm long, pointed. Flower clusters axillary in summer. Flowers red. Probable hybrid, g. speciosa subsp. speciosa _ g. speciosa subsp. dimorpha, or with g. oleoides a parent.
Grevillea 'Poorinda Tranquility'
Shrub to about 1.5 m tall, 2-3 m wide. Leaves oblong, to 3 cm long. Flower clusters lateral. Flowers pink with cream tip and pink style. Probable hybrid, g. alpina _ g. lavandulacea, produced early 1960s.
Small, spreading to upright, slightly hairy shrub. Leaves oblong, to about 4 cm long, 0.5 cm wide. Flowers deep pink. Hybrid with g. baueri and g. mucronulata as possible parents. Int. 1980s.
A hybrid, g. banksii (red form) _ g. bipinnatifida. Spreading shrub to about 1m tall and 1.5 m wide, the leaves divided. Flower clusters more or less toothbrush-like and red; almost year round. Originated as a spontaneous hybrid at Myall Park, Glenmorgan, Qld. The most popular grevillea in cultivation, named after the eldest daughter of David and Dorothy Gordon. Unfortunately some people may develop skin rashes when handling the plant and gloves should be worn. Very similar to 'Coconut Ice', 'Mason's Hybrid' ['Ned Kelly'] and 'Superb'.
A compact selection of g. rosmarinifolia, about 1.2 m tall and wide with large, pendulous flowers of pink and cream; autumn to spring. Originating from s NSWTablelands. Registered by Austraflora Nsy, Vic, with acra 8 Oct 1990.
Large shrub to 5 m tall. Leaves pinnate, 15-20 cm long with many linear lobes, grey-green, shiny above, hairy below; margins rolled under. Flower clusters mostly terminal; winter and spring. Flowers woolly, grey-green with yellow styles. A spontaneous hybrid, g. pteridifolia _ g. sessilis. Raised by David Gordon, Myall Park, Glenmorgan, Qld and named in 1968 after one of the Gordon's daughters. Similar natural hybrids occur.
Compact small shrub 1.5 m tall and wide. Leaves linear, shiny, to about 5 cm long, pointed; margins rolled under. Flowers clusters terminal or axillary in winter and spring. Flowers deep pink. Possible hybrid, g. sericea _ g. diffusa, int. from the nsy of Jim Howie, Cooper's Plains, Brisbane and commemorating the originator's wife.
Spreading shrub to 1.5 m tall. Leaves mostly 5-7 cm long, with broad linear pointed lobes. Flowers toothbrush-like, red. A chance seedling from the Cadwell property of uncertain origin, one parent possibly g. tetragonoloba. Name commemorating pioneer grower of native plants, Sid Cadwell, of Rylestone, nsw.
Rounded shrub to 1 m tall, 2 m wide. Similar to 'Robyn Gordon' but the flowers pink and orange. A hybrid, g. bipinnatifida (seed parent) _ g. banksii (white form), raised by Merv Hodge, Brisbane.

Hybrid, g. curviloba _ g. phanerophlebia, possibly g. vestita, g. triloba or g. manglesii as a parent. A useful landscape plant.

Flowers hairy, pink, fading to orange, style red. Probable hybrid, g. thelemanniana _ g. argyrophylla, or possibly g. olivacea.a chance seedling arising in 1981 on the property, 'Winpara', of Mrs k. Bartlett of Jervois, sa. 'Winpara Gold' is similar but has deep yellow flowers.
