Dense shrub to 3 m tall. Leaves to 10 cm long, 2 cm wide, deeply toothed. Flower clusters toothbrush-like, more or less year round. Flowers red. Possible hybrid, g. caleya _ g. longifolia, which arose as a chance seedling in the garden of Ivo Hammet, Ivanhoe,Vic.Widely cultivated.
