Miltoniopsis God.-Leb.

Resembling the genus Miltonia.

Epiphytic or epilithic herbs, sympodial, with short creeping rhizomes. Stems thickened into compressed pseudobulbs, closely spaced, sheathed at base, grey- or bluish-green. Leaves apical, solitary, thin to somewhat leathery, stalked. Inflorescences basal racemes, erect or arching. Flowers resupinate, 1-few, large, showy, mostly white or pink, sometimes with darker suffusions. Sepals similar, free, spreading. Petals similar to sepals but sometimes wider, free, spreading. Labellum entire, broad, hinged, margins sometimes wavy. Column short, keeled above. Pollinia 2, pear-shaped, waxy.

5 species from tropical C and S America.

Similar to Miltonia but with clustered, 1-leaved pseudobulbs and a column that is not hollow in front and lacks apical lobes.
