Freely clustering, body globular to 7 cm wide. Axils bristly. Central spines typically lacking, 6-8 twisting bristly yellowish radial spines to 27 mm. Flowers white to 20 mm long and 10 mm wide. Fruit green to pale pink.

M. albescens Tiegel is sometimes regarded as a form of M. camptotricha Sams, differing in the short, straight, white radial spines.
