Billbergia pyramidalis (Sims) Lindl.

Leaves 10-12 in open funnel-shaped rosette, 40-60 cm long, 3-4 cm wide, often white banded beneath; margins minutely toothed; tip rounded, spine-tipped. Scape slender, red, with thin bright red bracts. Inflorescence erect, simple, pyramidshaped, many-flowered, mealy; sepals red, violet at the tip; petals red tipped with blue.

Brazil

var. concolor L.B. Sm. Larger inflorescence, leaves wider, pale green, without white banding.

Related cultivar: ‘Violet Beauty’ Medium loose tube, dark green leaves. Semi-erect inflorescence, bracts red, petals violet.
