Senegal Date Palm

Robust suckering cluster palm. Trunks to about 5 m tall, very slender, woody, curved. Leaves arching, in a rounded crown, bright green, with a yellowish midrib. Leaflets arranged in several planes and appearing plumose. Flowers yellowish, in arching panicles to about 3 m long. Fruit about 2 cm long, brown when ripe.

Africa

Grows naturally in near-coastal districts in moist soil beside streams, swamps and soaks.

A highly ornamental palm especially when planted with water features. When well grown plants sucker profusely. A hardy palm which is successfully grown in tropical, subtropical and temperate regions.

Robust suckering palm with slender curved woody trunks and a rounded crown of bright green, curved feather-shaped leaves with the leaflets plumose, arranged in several planes.
