Perennial herb from a bulb. Leaves 2, broadly linear, tubercular, unspotted. Inflorescence racemose, to 30 cm. Flowers few to numerous, erect, bell-shaped, to 7 mm long; spring. Outer tepals slightly shorter than inner, cream, tipped green; inner tepals cream-yellow, tipped green. Stamens equalling the inner tepals.

Flowers few to numerous, pendulous, tubular, to 4.5 cm long; spring. Outer tepals slightly shorter, yellow swellings red; inner tepals orange to red with purple-edged green tips. Stamens as long as the inner tepals. [L. pendula Ait.]

L. reflexa Thunb. from Cape Province, South Africa is a perennial herb from a bulb. Leaves 1-2, broadly curved-linear, waxy blue, sometimes spotted. Inflorescence spike-like, to 20 cm. Flowers few, erect, tubular, swollen in the middle, to 25 mm long; spring. Outer tepals slightly shorter than inner, greenish-yellow, tipped green; inner tepals green-yellow, fading to dull red, tipped green. Stamens equalling the inner tepals.
