Swamp Lily

Leaves to 1 m or more long, 10 cm or more wide, margin smooth. Flowering stalk to 1.5 m long with (10-)20(-40) flowers and papery bracts to 15 cm long. Individual flower stalks 1.5-5 cm long. Flowers 10-30, with tubes 3-9.5 cm long, lobes narrow, curling back, white, fragrant. Filaments pink, red or purple, anthers long and straight.

Also available in a variegated form.

 

The other native popularly cultivated Crinum, C. flaccidum A.D. Herb. Murray Lily (Macquarie Lily, Darling Lily) from Qld, NSW, Vic, SA, NT has much narrower leaves.

C. asiaticum L., Poison Bulb, from tropical Asia has 20-50 flowers per cluster, each on a stalk less than 2.5 cm long and the flower tubes about 10 cm long.
