Clivia nobilis Lindl.

Plant stemless. Leaves to about 40 cm long with minutely toothed margins. Inflorescences many-flowered (to 40 or more). Flowers slender, curved, orange, yellow and green-tipped, pendulous on weak stalks, with the tepal tips not or hardly out-turned; stamens protruding; late winter, spring.

Old plants may develop an erect stem to about 20 cm tall, approaching C. caulescens.

Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

Stemless habit, pendulous slender flowers in large numbers on weak stalks.

 

C. gardenii Hook. from Natal, Transvaal is similar but with fewer flowers on stiffer stalks and the tepals with out-turned tips; winter. Clivia gardenii flowers earlier than other Clivia species.
