Sisyrinchium graminifolium Lindl.

Stem 30-45 cm tall, usually branched, winged. Leaves basal and cauline, shorter than stems. Spathes inflated, to 2.5 cm long. Flowers 4-8, bright yellow, about 15 mm wide; spring. Segments oblong, acute.

S. iridifolium Kunth, Blue Pigroot from S America has stems 20-60 cm tall, branched, winged. Leaves 5-20 cm long, 2-7 mm wide. Spathes 2-5 cm long, almost equal. Flowers 2-5, 1-2 cm wide, cream with purple or blue centre; summer. Segments oblong, acute, 12-15 mm long.This is no longer cultivated as an ornamental, but persists as a weed of gardens and waste ground.
