Stolons produced. Leaves flat, to 90 cm long, 1-2 cm wide. Stem to 1.2 m tall, 7 10-ribbed, often branched with zigzag 2 sided spikes. Flowers facing to each side, 3-5.5 cm long, orange to golden yellow; late summer to autumn. Perianth lobes longer than tube, becoming recurved. Stamens much longer than the lobes.
var. maculata Baker Flowers with a red-brown blotch at the base of the inner three segments.
