Epiphytic herbs, sympodial, with short rhizomes emerging from lower leaf axils. Stems short and leafy. Leaves in 2 ranks, many, thin to leathery, folded, arranged in a fan shape, overlapping at base. Inflorescences axillary, short, erect. Flowers resupinate, solitary, large, fleshy, waxy, often yellowish with brown markings. Sepals similar, spreading, dorsal free, laterals joined at base and attached to column foot. Petals similar, spreading, joined to column foot. Labellum 3-lobed, side lobes small, midlobe large and curving downward, callus basal, semicircular, fringed. Column short, 2-winged at tip, with a foot. Pollinia 4, in 2 pairs, waxy.

About 10 species from C and S America.

Leaves arranged in fan-like formation; large solitary fleshy flowers usually in shades of yellow and brown.
