Greek eu – well; cheilos − lip; an allusion to the beautiful labellum.
Epiphytic or epilithic herbs, sympodial, glaucous, with creeping rhizomes. Stems thickened into ovoid pseudobulbs. Leaves apical, 2 or 3, leathery, stalkless. Inflorescences terminal racemes, pendent. Flowers resupinate, 1-few, large, yellow or greenish. Sepals and petals similar, free, spreading or curved backwards. Labellum entire or obscurely 3-lobed, free, base enclosing column. Column long, cylindrical, toothed at tip. Pollinia 4, waxy.
2 species from Mexico.
Differs from Encyclia by the glaucous appearance and the tooth at tip of column.
