Erect subshrub to about 50 cm tall with 3-angled stems. Leaves linear to lanceolate, 2-4.5 cm long, 0.5-2 cm wide, margins entire or with a few teeth, hair soon lost, stalkless. Flower clusters on 1-2 branches and of 1-2 flowers; spring to summer. Flowers with rusty hairs outside.
