Syringa ×chinensis Willd.

Chinese Lilac

A deciduous shrub to about 5 m tall. Leaves ovate, to about 7 cm long and 3 cm wide. Flowers lilac, in open clusters, intermediate in appearance to the parents.

A hybrid, S. laciniata × S. vulgaris, raised originally in the late 18th century by M. Varin, director of the Rouen Botanical Garden, France, the cross later repeated.
