Salvia viridis L.

Annual or biennial herb to about 40 cm tall. Leaves to about 40 cm long, 20 cm wide, ovate to oblong, tip blunt, margin shallowly incised. Flowers in a spike of clusters, each verticillaster of 4-8 flowers. Corolla about 1.5 cm long, white, deep pink or purple; summer. The colourful bracts often remain on the plant. [S. horminum L.]

Mediterranean

Flowers with a coloured crown.

Sometimes known confusingly under the common name Clary Sage.

Cultivars are available in different colours.
