Variable perennial herb to 0.5 m or more tall and often suffused with red, sometimes slightly hairy. Leaves 3-6 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, ovate-lanceolate to elliptic, margin entire or with a few saw teeth. Flower clusters in well-spaced whorls. Flowers lilac. Stamens enclosed. [M. ×gentilis L.]
