Shrub to 5 m high. Leaf blade elliptic to narrowly elliptic, up to 18 cm long and 6 cm wide; secondary lateral veins 5-17 per side of midrib; upper surface glossy green, glabrous; lower surface pale green, glabrous; tip acute to long-pointed; base cuneate. Flowers 21-35 mm long, 30-54 mm wide; corolla white. Fruit 20-70 mm long. [Ervatamia divaricata (L.) Burkill, T. coronaria (Jacq.) Willd., Ervatamia coronaria (Jacq.) Stapf.]

Bangledash, Bhutan, Burma, China, India, Nepal, Thailand

Several cultivars are known, based on leaf variegation and flower morphology.
