Tree to 8 m high; stems fleshy-succulent, brittle. Leaf blade broadly elliptic, oblonglanceolate to obovate, up to 40 cm long and 10 cm wide,matt green above, pale green below, with 34-36 lateral veins per side of midrib; tip acute; base cuneate. Corolla white, rose pink, orange, pale pink, yellow at centre; limb 7-10 cm wide; tube 2-2.5 cm long; lobes oblong-obovate, 4-5 cm long, 1.8-2.2 cm wide. P. obtusa L. from the Caribbean is a tree to 8 m high with fleshy-succulent, brittle stems. Leaf blade oblong to obovate, up to 24 cm long and 8.5 cm wide, glossy green above, pale green below, with 30-32 lateral veins per side of midrib; tip obtuse; base cuneate. Corolla white, yellow at centre; limb 7-9 cm wide; tube 2.5-3 cm long; lobes obovate, 4-4.5 cm long, 2.3-2.5 cm wide.
