Flowering Currant

Shrub mostly to 2 m tall, spineless, aromatic, occasionally to 4 m. Leaves 5-8 cm wide, 3-5-lobed, the margin with small teeth, softly hairy below, base cordate. Flower clusters pendent, with numerous flowers. Flowers white to reddish pink, tubular, the calyx lobes mostly longer than the tube, the petals white or rosy; late spring to early summer. Fruit blue-black with a waxy bloom.

Cultivars may have white, deep pink or double flowers. 'King Edward VII' is listed.
