Tall tree with smooth grey scaly bark. Leaves alternate, 10-15 cm long, 3-4.5 cm wide, pointed, leathery. Flowers axillary, 1 or 2, sometimes several at the tip of the shoot. Sepals yellowish. Petals 4-5, yellow. Stamens numerous, 2-3 cm long in a single whorl. Ovary more or less superior, 3-chambered. Fruit 1-1.5 cm wide.
The cultivars X. 'Expo Gold' and X. 'Tropic Splendour' PVJ 6(1)5 are listed.
A tree of the Qld rainforests but grown in warmer districts, e.g. Brisbane and occasionally further south.
