Rosa virginiana Herrm.

Prickles absent or paired at the nodes, sometimes with bristles. Leaflets 5-9, more or less obovate to oblong, to about 6 cm long, hairless above and below except sometimes on the midrib, teeth simple. Flowers in clusters, single, pale to dark pink, fragrant; summer. Styles free, not protruding. Fruit 1-1.5 cm wide, red, hairless to bristly.
