Austrian Briar

Shrub to 3 m tall. Prickles unequal and broadly based, usually with bristles. Leaflets 5-9, to 4 cm long, elliptic to obovate, few hairs above, downy below, teeth compound. Flowers solitary or few, single, dark yellow, unpleasant-smelling. Fruit round, to 1 cm wide, sometimes bristly.

Possibly an ancient natural hybrid.
