Deciduous TREE to 8 m. LEAVES elliptic to ovate, to 15 cm long, acuminate, toothed, downy, particularly on the lower surface. FLOWERS white to pink, usually semi-double or double, 3 cm or more wide, on stalks 5 cm or more long, in corymbs of 3-4 flowers. Calyx tube bell-shaped. FRUIT rarely formed. Syn. 'Takasago'. P. speciosa × P. apetala.
P. ×sieboldii in Australia does not have downy leaves and is likely to be a cultivar within the P. Sato-zakura Group.
