Photinia beauverdiana Schneid.

Deciduous shrub or small tree to 8 m or so tall. Leaves more or less lanceolate to obovate, 6-12 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, tip pointed, margin finely toothed. Leaf stalk about 1 cm long. Flower cluster terminal or axillary, 2-3 cm long and about 5 cm wide. Flowers about 7-9 mm wide; early summer. Fruit ovoid, about 6 mm long, deep red.

P. villosa (Thunb.) DC. from Japan, China and Korea is occasionally cultivated; it has smaller leaves that have characteristic shaggy hair below.
