Malus ioensis (Wood) Britton

Small tree with peeling bark. Young shoots hairy at first. Leaves oblong-ovate, toothed or sometimes shallowly lobed, felted below. Flowers about 4 cm wide, white to pale pink, fragrant; summer. Fruit about 3 cm wide, green.

, Bechtel Crab. Flowers double, 6 cm wide, pale pink and fragrant. Discovered in an old fence row, c. 1840, and int. 1891 by Bechtel Nsy, Staunton, Illinois, usa. Specimens act: Canberra (Australian National University Forestry Department). Vic: Malvern (Henderson Ave, street planting); Monbulk (Bickleigh Vale, 'Winbourne').
