Shrub to 3 m tall. Leaves elliptic, ovate to obovate, blunt-tipped, more or less toothed, scurfy grey, 2-4 cm long. Leaf stalk 0.5-1 cm long. Male and female plants separate. Fruit bracteoles stalked, 5-10 mm long with the margins entire or wavy-toothed.
