Mammillaria mystax Mart.

Solitary or clustering, body elongate to 15 cm wide and 15-30 cm high, with milky sap. Tubercles prominent, pyramidal. Axils woolly and bristly. Central spines (1-)3-4(-7), 15-20 mm with one to 70 mm. Radial spines 5-6(-10), white, tips brown. Flowers purple-pink, to 2.5 cm long and 2 cm wide. Fruit red.
