Aptenia N.E.Br.

From the Greek aptena—without wings; referring to the wingless capsule valves.

Succulent prostrate papillose perennial herbs with angular branches. Leaves in opposite equal pairs, base cordate. Flowers with sepals 4 in opposite unequal pairs, stamens and sterile stamens purplish red. Ovary 4-chambered; ovule placentation axile.

2 species from S Africa (1 species naturalised in Australia).
