Rhizome long-creeping, woody, to about 3 mm wide; scales dark brown. Fronds separate on the rhizome. Blade to 50 cm long, mostly 3-8 cm wide, narrowly oblanceolate, sometimes slightly wavy-edged, leathery. Stalk 6 cm or more long. Sori 1.5-2.5 mm wide, scattered between the midrib and margin.
Needs shelter and warmth.

Fronds simple with a long stalk and large sori; closely related to M. punctatum but larger.
