Rhizome short-creeping, black, covered with black scales. Sterile and fertile fronds similar. Fronds mostly 30-40 cm long and 10-12 cm wide. Blade lanceolate to ovate in outline, rough, lowermost segments sometimes free. Stalks covered with blackish scales, rough. Sori in one or two rows beside, but not immediately next to, the midvein.
Will tolerate cool conditions.
