Shaggy Shield Fern

Rhizomes short, thick. Blades divided once, to 60 cm or so long.  Stalks covered with dark, shiny scales that are abundant also on main axis. Segment margins toothed or scallop-edged or sometimes shallowly cut. Sori closer to central vein than margin. Needs shelter and warmth.

Recognition: Fronds divided once; axes covered with black scales.

India to China and Japan.
