Magnolia campbellii 'Como'

(m. campbellii var. alba × m. sargentiana var. robusta) Habit narrow and compact. Flowers large, pale mauvish to white, prolific, often extending to the base of the plant. Imported in the 1960s by John Chandler as m. sargentiana var. robusta but the flowers revealed, 18 years later, that it was clearly a hybrid formed probably with m. campbellii var. alba which was growing near the original plant. After this plant was seen by n. Treseder in the Chandler garden in 1973 he believed that it was probably a hybrid m. campbellii var. alba × m. sargentiana var. robusta.
