Puya chilensis Molina

Plant with a woody, prostrate stem forming dense, clumping rosetes. Leaves large to 1.5 m long, 7.5 cm wide, green, sharp rigid tip, margins with hooked, brownish spines. Inflorescence on an erect scape reaching 3–4 m high, many branches with sterile ends. Flowers 5 cm long, greenish yellow.

Central Chile

A large species usually only found in Botanic Gardens due to its size. The large, striking inflorescence is a major feature.

Birds (honeyeaters) feed on the flowers from the perch-like sterile branches.
