Stems to 5-6 m or more tall and 5 cm or more wide and with a wide hollow centre, often brownish purple. Nodes with a whitish powdery bloom beneath each. Basal sheaths shiny and purplish inside. Leaves mostly 10-15 cm long and about 1-2 cm wide, often purplish. [Arundinaria fastuosa (Mitford) Mak.]
