Kentucky Bluegrass

Cool season, fine-textured loosely turfed rhizomatous perennial. Leaf folded in bud. Leaf blade flat or slightly v-shaped, keeled, 5.0-25.0 mm long, 2.0-5.0 mm wide, stiff, dark green to bluish-green terminating in a boat-shaped tip. Ligule membranous, whitish, 0.2-1.0 mm long, slightly pointed. Sheath slightly flattened, keeled, hairless, split, with overlapping rough margins. Inflorescence an erect, open greenish-white panicle with slender lower branches usually in whorls of five.

Europe

Valuable grass for turf, sports fields, instant lawn, racecourses, as well as a herbage and pasture source.

 

P. trivialis L., Rough-stem Bluegrass from Europe is a plant found in wetlands, waterways and stream margins, ditches and cultivated areas. Included in some lawn and turf seed mixtures and pastures.
