Crab grass

Coarse-textured, warm season annual grass that spreads by decumbent, branching stems. Leaf blade rolled in bud. Ligule membranous, 0.5-3.0 mm long, short, truncate. Sheath rounded, split, covered with 3-4 mm hairs. Inflorescence 2-7 spikes clustered at the end of stem with ovate spikelets ciliated on margins.

Cosmopolitan

Major grassy weed throughout temperate and tropical world, in Australia a serious weed in pastures, lawns and cultivated areas.

 

D. didactyla Willd., Queensland Blue Couch (Blue Crab Grass), from Queensland, Madagascar, Mauritius and Indo-China is a medium, warm season stoloniferous summer growing perennial grass common in lawns, pastures, roadsides and cultivated land, principally in northern New South Wales and Queensland.
