Perennial herb to 2.5 m tall with cylindrical rhizomes that root at the nodes. Leaves deeply pleated, to nearly 1 m long and 8 cm wide overtopped by the flower spikes which are dense and cylindrical. Flowers with perianth segments over 1 cm wide, yellow. Stamens and style spreading and about two thirds the length of the tepals.
South Africa, Clanwilliam to Cape
In Victoria this species has shown the propensity to become weedy, spreading by self-seeding in the Upper Beaconsfield and Emerald area, and Millgrove near Warburton.
