Tufted shortly rhizomatous herb. Stems erect, annual. Leaves linear-lanceolate, 15-35 cm. Cymes many-flowered, bracts leaf-like. Sepals hairy. Petals violet. purplish or white. Stamen filaments very hairy. [T. brevicaulis Raf., T.× andersoniana W. Ludw. & Rohw. invalid name]

 

Grown in full sun as a cold-tolerant bedding plant.

The Andersoniana Group represents hybrids of T. virginiana L. with closely related species such as T. canaliculata Raf., T. ohiensis Raf. and T. subaspera Ker Gawl. amongst others.
