Vriesea schwackeana Mez

Plant flowering 80-100 cm high. Leaves many in a broadly funnel-like rosette 40-60 cm long; sheaths distinct; blades ligulate, 3-4.5 cm wide, green. Scape erect with elliptic overlapping bracts. Inflorescence laxly bipinnate, 30-40 cm long; spikes spreading, densely 8-14 flowered, 10-18 cm long, 2-3 cm wide; floral bracts distichous, overlapping, but sometimes exposing the axis, about 30 cm long, 2 cm wide, exceeding the sepals, copper coloured; petals 3-4 cm long, yellow; stamens protruding.
