Canistrum C.J. Morren

From the Greek kanistron – a basket, referring to the overlapping whorl of bracts around the inflorescence.

Stemless epiphytic herbs. Leaves in a funnel-shaped rosette, ligulate or strap-shaped, green above, appressed scaly below, margins spiny. Inflorescence compound; bracts overlapping, forming a cup around the inflorescence. Flowers on short stalks with greenish or white petals. Fruit a succulent berry.
