Pinanga coronata (Mart.) Blume

Ivory Cane Palm

Clustering palm. Trunks to 8 m tall, 12 cm wide, light green, prominently ringed. Crownshaft pale green. Leaves feather-shaped, about 1 m long, bright green. Leaflets in 6-8 pairs, relatively broad. Flowers pink to white, showy. Fruit about 7 mm long, red. [P. kuhlii Blume].

Indonesia

Has proved to be hardy in warm temperate regions but young plants need protection from frost.

P. caesia Blume, from Sulawesi, has a solitary trunk, reddish to purplish crownshaft and bluish to viole coloured petioles and leaf rhachises. It is grown on a limited scale in subtropical and temperate regions.
