Australian Fan Palm

Trunk solitary, to 15 m tall, to 25 cm wide, woody. Leaves numerous in a heavy crown. Leaf stalks 1-1.5 m long. Leaf blades 1-2 m long and wide, bright green, appearing circular. Leaflets numerous, crowded, wedge-shaped, spined on lower parts of the margins. Flowers white. Fruit to about 2 cm across, round, red. [L. muelleri H.Wendl. & Drude]

Queensland

Occurs in moist to wet sites, often growing in large colonies.

The only Australian species of the genus.

Young plants are cold sensitive and need shelter and warmth. Useful as an indoor plant.
