Robust solitary palm. Trunk to 2 m tall, 40 cm wide, woody, dark green and with close leaf scars. Crownshaft short, indistinct, 15-20 cm long, dark green and with a brown scurf, bulging. Leaves feather-shaped, to 1.3 m long, arching or slightly twisted. Leaflets numerous, regularly arranged, narrow, crowded, dark green, held stiffly erect. Leaf stalks short, spineless. Leaf sheath deeply split opposite the leaf stalk. Panicles from base of crownshaft, freely branched. Fruit about 1 cm wide, round, red, containing 1 roundish seed.
Lord Howe Island
A palm for the specialist collector. Very slow growing and can be difficult to maintain. Needs shade.
