Blue Latan Palm

Trunk to 10 m tall, 25 cm wide with ridged rings. Crown large, nearly round. Leaves to 4 m long, dull bluish-green, the basal parts with a thick white wool. Panicles to 2 m long. Fruit about 4 cm across, brown, shiny.

Round Island, Mascarene Group

A very adaptable palm. Needs sun and excellent drainage. Frost tolerant.

 

L. lontaroides (Gaertn.) H.E.Moore, Red Latan Palm from Réunion and the Mascarene Group is similar to L. loddigesii but the leaves have distinct red veins and seedlings have reddish leaves. [L. borbonica Lam.; L. commersonii J.F. Gmel.]

L. verschaffeltii Lem.,Yellow Latan Palm from Rodriguez, Mascarene Group, is similar to L. loddigesii but with light green leaves and seedlings having yellow to orange leaf stalks and yellowish shiny leaflets.
