Kentiopsis oliviformis (Brongn. & Griseb.) Brongn.

Solitary, tall spineless palm. Trunk to 30 m tall, 15 cm wide or more with grey rings when young. Crownshaft to about 1 m long, prominent, pale green but covered with a white felt when young. Leaves 8-10, feather-shaped, arching, dark green. Leaf stalk to about 10 cm long, with the leaf sheath and leaf midrib covered with a more or less deciduous grey-white felt of hair. Leaflets 40-50 per side, narrow, crowded, secondary nerves prominent. Panicles more or less erect, from base of crownshaft, resembling a straw broom. Fruit 1.4-1.7 cm long, ellipsoid, red.

New Caledonia

Occurs in rainforest on acid soils.

A generally slow growing collectors' item which grows best in moist shade and heat. Grows well in Sydney.
