Clump-forming herb to 35 cm high from a spreading rhizome. Leaves numerous, clumped, broadly linear, stalked, perennial. Inflorescence slender, smooth, not exceeding the leaves. Flowers numerous, spreading, to 8 mm wide; summer. Tepals reddish-pink. Fruit red.
Japan and China.
Grown as a garden or indoor plant in light to heavy shade.
