Clump-forming herb to 1.2 m high from a thick rhizome. Stems erect. Leaves numerous, alternate, narrow to broadly-ovate, short-furry beneath. Flowers 1-2, drooping, to 2 cm long; summer.Tepals white, green-tipped.

P. falcatum Gray from Japan and Korea is a clump-forming herb to 85 cm high from a thick rhizome. Stems erect. Leaves numerous, alternate, narrow to broadly ovate, curved. Flowers 2-5, drooping, to 2.2 cm long; summer. Tepals white.
