Aspidistra elatior Blume

Perennial herb to 60 cm high from a stout rhizome. Leaves broadly-ovate, stalked, singly spaced along the rhizome. Flowers 1, buds subterranean, opening at ground level, spreading, to 2.5 cm wide; spring. Tepals pale-yellow with purple spotting, purple-red inside.
