Perennial herb from a tunicate bulb. Leaves numerous, sheathing, broadly linear. Inflorescence to 50 cm, erect, loose. Flowers numerous, erect, about 2 cm long; spring.Tepals blue-violet, spreading to form an open cup, tips not reflexed. Anthers blue, inserted near the tepal bases. Seeds black. [Scilla campanulata Ait., Endymion campanulatus Parl, E. hispanicus (Mill.) Chouard]

H. italica (L.) Roth., Italian Bluebell, from Italy, Spain and Portugal is a perennial herb from a tunicate bulb. Leaves numerous, sheathing, narrow-linear. Inflorescence to 40 cm, erect, dense. Flowers numerous, erect, about 1.5 cm long; spring. Tepals blue-violet, wide-spreading, tips not reflexed. Anthers blue, inserted near the tepal bases. Seeds black.

H. non-scripta (L.) Roth., English Bluebell, from Italy, Spain and Portugal is a perennial herb from a tunicate bulb. Leaves numerous, sheathing, linear. Inflorescence to 50 cm, loose, 1-sided, drooping apically. Flowers numerous, nodding, about 2 cm long; spring. Tepals blue-violet, overlapping to form a bellshaped tube with reflexed tips. Anthers cream, outer 3 inserted in middle of tepals, inner 3 at the base. Seeds black. [Scilla non-scripta Hoffmanseg. & Link; Endymion non-scriptus (L.) Garcke]
